Trap Pond
Indian River Marina
Ft. Delaware
Trap Pond's campgrounds are nestled beneath towering loblolly pines, and its Cypress Swamp boasts a breathtaking stand of baldcypress trees. Rent a boat and explore Trap Pond and the James Branch Canoe Trail, a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Indian River Marina, part of Delaware Seashore State Park, is located on the north side of the Indian River Inlet, just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and some of the best fishing on the east coast.
Fort Delaware, the Union fortress dating back to 1859, was designed to protect the strategically important ports along the upper Delaware River and Bay. However, after the Confederate naval threat was removed it was used to house Confederate prisoners of war. To get to the fort visitors take a 1/2 mile ferry ride from Delaware City to Pea Patch Island. A jitney provides transport from the island dock to the granite and brick fortress. Here, costumed reenactors take you back to the summer of 1864. Or schedule one of a variety of Paranormal Tours and find out for yourself if the fort is haunted by the spirits of past inhabitants. Whichever tour you take, be prepared to have an enjoyable experience.
